RECTOR TRANSITION AT HEAVENLY REST Update on the Search Process April 28, 2010 The Search Committee has been meeting weekly to keep the discernment process moving at a good pace. We have received all of the candidate profiles, work histories, and personal assessments. The charge for the Search Committee during the first part of April was to review the materials of each candidate and rank them based on qualifications. For the initial review process, the committee looked at the number of years of ordination, length of time as a Rector, administrative experience, and history of some involvement with children, outreach and length of stay in previous positions.
Upon initial review of these rankings, it was clear that several of the applicants 5 – 10 were strong candidates, 10-15 did not have the appropriate job experience for Heavenly Rest and some had “unique past experience.”
One group of candidates received a letter thanking them for their interest in Heavenly Rest and we wished them well in their discernment process. A smaller group was sent letters requesting additional information. The committee will meet to go through the materials and to hear tapes of their sermons for the next few meetings. Contact has also been made with this group to visit Heavenly Rest during the months of May or June.
The Search Committee remains grateful for the support and guidance provided by the Heavenly Rest Community as we continue to move along on this journey. As always please let me know or any member of the Search Committee, if you have questions. On behalf of the entire Search Committee, we are thankful for the opportunity to serve our Parish in this important ministry. Update on the Search Process March 3, 2010 The Search Committee is pleased to report that the Parish Profile is now available on the church website at http://www.chrabilene.com Click on the Parish Profile link on the home page to read the document. Copies of the Parish Profile are available in the church office and in the library. The Position Profile for the new rector has been posted. You may read this by accessing www.episcopalchurch.org/cdo. As we enter Phase II of the search process, the Position Profile has been posted on the national church website at www.episcopalchurch.org/cdo. We have had a number of applicants submitted by members of Heavenly Rest and some self-applicants. Although committee members cannot share information on the candidates, we are committed to keeping the congregation apprised of the process. Screening names of candidates is the next step of Phase II. If you have questions, please contact co-chairs: Nancy Estes at johnestes46@gmail.com. Jackie Batjer at jbatjer@aol.com or any member of the Search Committee. Update on the Search Process 01-24-10 The Parish Profile sub-committee met in November and again in January to develop the Parish Profile. This sub-committee prayerfully deliberated about each aspect of the profile. The Search Committee has worked to present an accurate measure of who we are as a parish and what we want in our future rector. The Search Committee met January 11 and approved the Parish Profile for presentation to the Vestry. At the January meeting of the Vestry, the Parish Profile was presented for their consideration. After the Vestry approves the document, it will be sent to the Bishop. Our next step is to submit the Search Request form to Nancy Igo, the Diocesan Deployment Officer. Candidates who are interested in applying for the rector position at Heavenly Rest will submit resumes to the Diocesan Deployment Officer. The position will be listed as of February 1, 2010. The Deployment Officer plans to accept candidates through March 1, 2010.
The Search Committee would like for members of our parish to submit names of candidates they wish to propose for consideration. You may contact any member of the Search Committee. A listing of the committee and their email addresses are listed below. Our parish profile will be posted on the Heavenly Rest website under Search Committee in the near future.
Once the Search Committee receives names and resumes from the Diocesan Deployment Office, we will move into the next phase of the search process, screening of the candidates. This phase will take approximately two to three months.
We ask that you continue your prayers for our church as we continue the search process. Please contact a member of the Rector Search Committee (link above) if you have any questions. Update on the Search Process – December Nancy Igo, ministry coordinator for the Diocese of Northwest Texas, was present at a joint meeting of the Search Committee and the Vestry held November 7, 2009. Nancy made a presentation outlining the duties and responsibilities of the Search Committee and the Vestry. Her presentation was very informative and helpful.
Members of the Search Committee are working with the recent survey results, the strategic plan adopted by the Vestry, past annual parish reports and financial data, to compile a Profile of our parish. The Profile will be presented to the Vestry for approval then to Bishop Mayer for his approval. The Profile will be posted in its’ final form on the church website. A copy will also be available in the Parish office for your review. The Profile will provide potential nominees with information about Heavenly Rest. Once the Profile is completed, a search request form will be submitted to Nancy Igo. The Committee has already received several names from Parishioners. We encourage you to submit candidate’s names to any member of the Search Committee. "It's November: Now what?" Early in November the Rector Search Committee and the Vestry will meet for a workshop at Heavenly Rest with Nancy Igo, Ministry Coordinator/Transition Ministry Officer for the Diocese of Northwest Texas. The purpose of Mrs. Igo's visit is one of education and information as the committee moves to the next step in the search process. Collectively the group will: · review the typical search process · examine what that process entails · discuss how the process will proceed including questions that should be targeted · go over the steps involved in transitioning to a new rector.
Remember that all members of the Search Committee are available to you. Please do not hesitate to reach out to any one of us if you have a question or would like more information. We ask that you please continue to pray for the Search process.
Update on the Search Process – October – The Process The search process falls into two distinct phases. Phase I is development of the parish profile; Phase II is reviewing candidates.
The Parish Profile is a document that encapsulates not only who we are as a parish but also what we are looking for in our next long-term rector. Over 217 of you completed the online Parish survey last month. We are very grateful for your input. Your thoughts and ideas are invaluable to the search process. So, please don’t hesitate to reach out to any one of us if you have a question or information to share with us.
On Saturday, September 19, the Search Committee and Vestry members met with Russ Crabtree consultant with Holy Cow! Consulting. Russ presented information on demographics that will help potential rectors know who we are collectively in terms of our ages, the number of children and youth in the parish and other factors that influence the search process. The survey resulted in a look at Heavenly Rest’s vital signs—our goals, performance indices for hospitality, morale, governance, spiritual vitality, worship and music, educational engagement to name a few. These survey results, together with the parish history, will form the foundation of the parish profile.
The Search Committee is committed to keep you informed of the process and the progress the committee is making. You will have monthly updates in the LayReader and have access to progress on the Heavenly Rest website. A copy of the survey results is available in the church office and in the library. All members of the Committee are available to you. So, please don’t hesitate to reach out to any one of us if you have a question or would like more information.
